33-34 Weeks

Only 3 more weeks until I can stop worrying about her coming early!!! I can't believe she is almost here. I was a bit nervous a few weeks ago but now I am just excited. I had my appointment yesterday and Russ was out of town so my dad did it for me. That was fun to see him in action like the old days :) I am small but my belly is measuring right on and we measured her head and torso and she is right on too. It was fun to see her again on the ultrasound. Her head is super low in my pelvis - why I feel her hiccup in my butt ;). She was yawning and then practicing breathing which is crazy! I could see her lungs expanding and contracting - a good sign that she is getting ready for the world. Her back is still mostly on my right and she grinds her feet against my side on the left. My favorite part about being pregnant is feeling her move around - although it hurts a lot sometimes. She has dropped down some too since my heartburn and ribs aren't near as bad as they were a few weeks ago. Kind of a nice relief but a trade-off for low back pain and weird pelvic pressure.

I wanted to see what my belly looked like so I decided to post it :)

I have been working on her nursery - a theme of owls and trees/leaves in pink and green. We cleaned out the office this weekend and got all the furniture moved in. It still needs some finishing touches but it was a start. At least now she has a place to sleep. I made some art with Amy and my cousin and FINALLY finished it last Sunday. It was way more work than I anticipated but I LOVE how it turned out. They are made of paper glued to a canvas and I just cut and pasted it together. Hope it holds up!


The start of the nursery...love love love my chair. It rocks, literally, and is soooooo comfy.


On a random note to self - I spent 2 1/2 hours at the mall today trying on bras. It has been over 3 years since I have looked for one and it was as dreadful as I expected. I finally just bought a bunch and brought them all home for Alex to decide. The sad truth - I am now officially a 36 D. But I did find two good ones - one without wires for breastfeeding and one that, as Alex put it, "doesn't make you look like a jungle goddess and helps separate your belly from your boobs." Thanks honey. (I do admit - the sports bra look was getting old)

Andrea's 26th Birthday

26 - Yikes - that is closer to 30 than to 20. Big time bummer. But I had a great day. Alex and I went to Cafe Rio for lunch, then drove around trying to find a birthday cake for me. I was hoping for Nothing Bundt Cake but they were closed - how rude. We ordered take out from Sawadee and had Amy/Shawn, Krissa/Tom, and Amanda/Gerard over for games and junk food. Thanks everyone for making my birthday special even if it is right after Christmas!

Merry Christmas from the Barkers

Since I was so sick over Christmas, I didn't take hardly any pictures. Here is a recap so I can remember what we did...

The night before I got sick, we had an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party with Alex's family. Ya, Alex and I overdid it compared to most everyone else - but we had fun.

We spent Christmas Eve at Paula's and ate a fantastic dinner (I wasn't able to eat much). We played games together then went to bed. It was the first Christmas that Alex and I actually slept in our own bed. He and I had our own little Christmas morning together. Again, I was super sick and couldn't hardly move. Suka got lots of plush toys - destroyed in minutes - and a huge raw-hide bone. Alex got a bunch of games to play with friends and family, including Ticket to Ride which we played for 5 hours straight the next day with Gerard. I got a super cool video camera - Flip - that is smaller than my cell phone and a digital picture frame. We went to Paula's again and got to see Evan open some presents. She was really excited about the first 3 gifts then realized there were more presents. Then she was just excited to open presents and didn't really care what was in them - note to self - kids only need about 3 cool presents and then be done :) We spent most of the day hanging out at Paula's but did make it over to Amy's to see her kids. They got American Girl Dolls and cute matching outfits. It was a fun and relaxing Christmas.

New Year's Eve was at Krissa and Tom's house. The boys stayed awake and Krissa and I fell asleep on the couch early. Guess that's what happens when you are pregnant or just had a baby :)

New Year's Day at Amy's house - Suka got to play outside forever. The kids and dog came back in and it smelled like wet stinky socks in Amy's house - sorry :) He had a blast!!

A Decade of Change

I wanted to write down all the things that happened to me in the last decade. It will probably be the decade with the most changes in my life. I can't believe that Y2K was 10 years ago!!!

2000 - I was in the 10th Grade
2001 - Became an aunt for the first time
2002 - Graduated from Brighton High School, moved to Logan for college
2003 - Got engaged (at age 19 yikes)
2004 - Got married
2005 - Received a scholarship for tennis
2006 - Graduated from College at Utah State - started Grad school at the U
2007 - Started my clinical rotations and saw my first real patients
2008 - Graduated from the U of U with my Masters of Physician Assistant Studies
2008 - Went to Alaska for the first time
2008 - Started my career as a PA at TOSH
2009 - Bought our first home, bought our first boat, bought a dog and got pregnant - whew big year!

I am excited for the next 10 years which I am sure will be focused around being a mother and a wife!

31-32 Weeks

Well there have been a few changes over the past 2 weeks:
I am finally feeling bigger. I can't slouch or she will kick me in the ribs. And if I even bend over an inch, my heartburn rages! She is still super active but I think that will start dwindling down. The other morning she was kicking so hard it looked like "Alien" when the thing comes out of Sigourny Weaver's stomach. It was CRAZY! I had my first day of bad swelling to where I couldn't get my wedding rings off. Fortunately that hasn't come back yet. The best part of the last 2 weeks is that she has started having the hiccups. I can feel a repetitive movement down low where her head is. So bizarre that they can get that already :)

At 31 weeks exactly I got the stomach flu (last Wednesday). I had to take my very first sick day in all of my clinical rotations and since starting my job. They say for those who work in medicine sick days don't exist. I have to admit, it was a little weird to not go to work and suck it up. But I couldn't keep anything down and was so dehydrated that I started having contractions. I ended up getting 2 liters of LR at the office and still didn't pee for a few hours after! But at least I was feeling a little better, or so I thought. I had the same issue on Christmas morning - diarrhea and vomiting so I was real fun to be around :) Then that night I started in with a head cold and haven't been able to shake it off yet - 1 week later. Ugh. At least my docs gave me the day off tomorrow so I don't have to take another sick day - doesn't help that I worked 14 HOURS on Tuesday in surgery - I felt pretty crappy after that.

Looking forward to the dwindling time left until our little one arrives!

Fake Christmas

Since Rachel is living in Switzerland and she just had a baby, my parents and Cam are heading that way for Christmas. So we couldn't ruin the family tradition of Christmas Eve dinner and slumber party. This past Saturday we all got together at my parent's and ate the usual: Crab legs, green and red jello, home made potato rolls, tri-tip. It was delicious. Then we opened presents that night instead of the morning. Even though there was no santa presents and we only do gift exchange between siblings, it still took us forever! And I got just what I was hoping for - a sewing machine! Now I can make cute homemade stuff for the baby with all my spare time - ha ha. I hope to at least make a few cute burp cloths.

29-30 Weeks

30 Weeks - I'd like to consider this the start of the countdown! Only 10 weeks left - 9 if I am so lucky as to go early :) Things are still going well. I have been getting the best sleep and haven't hit that "too uncomfortable" state yet. But . . . my belly button has finally popped - the turkey is done as some would say. It is so weird looking - I thought about taking a picture of it but didn't want to freak anyone out! And when I sit up or strain, it pokes out further - makes me laugh!
She continues to move around like crazy. I think I can feel her rolling inside me but she always comes back to the same spot - butt in my right ribs and legs kicking my left side. She is getting pretty strong too. Still getting some sweet heartburn. Can't bend over without erping. Awesome.


And the dog still wants to play when I get home, but it is getting uncomfortable to sit on the floor with him. So I take our little chair, set it in the middle of the carpet and he brings all his toys to me - ALL of his toys...
Above we have plush bone, squishy fish, indestructible bone toy, rope, ball, squishy flower, raw hide and chunk of former plush alien. Think he likes to play?!? "I am ready..."
Alex's nice boss bought Suka a huge plush candy cane toy - because she knows how much he loves to destroy them - and this was especially gigantic. I think it took him about 2 minutes to have most of the stuffing all over the house. Thanks Erin :)

27-28 Weeks

Feeling good. I seem to still have some energy and get pretty good sleep, which is a bonus!

I took our little one to her first concert on Monday. Amy, Mckenzie and I all went to see 30 Seconds to Mars. We stood right by the speakers on the left of the stage and by the end my left ear was a bit dull :) She liked the singing - when it was really loud she didn't move as much but when the crowd was singing along and it wasn't so loud she liked it - I think she flipped around - I could feel things rubbing across my whole belly.

I had my 28 week check up today. Things are going well. My weight gain slowed which is awesome!!! Only 2 pounds in 4 weeks!! She is measuring exactly on. Amy and I took a peek at her with the ultrasound which was fun. WE haven't seen her for 8 weeks now! We saw her wiggle, put her feet by her head, yawn a bunch of times and suck on her hand - it was so stinkin' cute! And she is head down!! Wahoo - lets just hope she stays that way ;)

Her hand in her mouth - yes the hole is her eyeball but you can see her nose and lips with her hand right there!

Footie - I remember when she wasn't even this big! And this is what keeps kicking me always on my left side!!

Legs - look nice and strong.

Face - she is laying on her side and looking right at the scanner. Right eyelid, nose and part of her mouth.

Top of her head - she has hair!!! I hope it stays - I was born with just a little and it would be fun to see the difference! Look at 2 o'clock.

Getting ready for Christmas!

He is just cute so I had to put a few of him in here...

We spent Black Friday decorating our house - it took us ALL DAY LONG. And when we were done it didn't seem like that much stuff! We put up lit houses on all our shelves and they even all turn on.

Our tree is chuck full of ornaments - looks like a festival of trees tree. Alex and Paula did most of the work :)

Utah versus BYU...a sad day for us :(

Alex and I hosted a "Beat BYU" party. Cameron made these shirts for a food drive and so of course we wore them all day!

Cute nieces

I made a bunch of red food (with red food coloring so of course they turned out pink) and had everyone bring something red to eat...

We had red cups, plates, table cloth, cookies, chip dip, fruit dip, apples, meatballs, swedish fish, pepperoni pizza, licorice, salsa and apple cider.

So sad that we lost - and it was a knife to the heart in overtime - BUMMER!!!

Thanksgiving 2009

We drove to Idaho to visit my mom's family on Wednesday and stayed until Thursday night. It had been a while since we were all up there. It was really nice to see everyone again!
The kids played Air Soft guns out on the farm with Papa - good idea...give a gun to a bunch of kids under 10 :) good thing they don't really hurt that much. But Snow took a shot to the lip - notice the swelling...

My Grandma was nice enough to let Suka come. She never lets dogs in her house so we REALLY appreciate it!!! He had a BLAST! Played outside all day on the farm and inside with all the cousins.

We had Thanksgiving again on Sunday with Alex's family. It was some of the BEST food we have ever had! Thanks to Paula and Cynthia for cooking it all.

25-26 Weeks

Not much to report this week other than the picture really does make my boobs look huge - oh wait, they are that huge. Such a bummer...

She is moving a ton. I often wonder what she is doing inside there because it is like she is having a small seizure or something - kick kick kick kick. I do like this part of pregnancy better than the first though. People notice your pregnant, you can feel the baby move, etc. The only downfall lately has been the heartburn. I get it at totally random times. Not associated to food. Sometimes worse if I bend over. Wow, it can get super intense.

I am nearing the end of the second trimester next week! Crazy how time has flown by. I just don't look forward to getting so tired again but I think it has already begun. The second trimester really is the best :)

23-24 weeks

23 weeks and Alex finally gets to feel her from the outside! I have decided that the coolest part of being pregnant is feeling a baby move inside of you. It is so bizarre to think there is a little one in my stomach wiggling around. CRAZY.

Halloween
We went to the Real Salt Lake soccer game on Halloween - and they won - in the playoffs! There were some loud drums playing the whole time and I could feel the baby moving and see her from the outside. Maybe she will be a dancer, or a hippie, either way she really liked the loud beating of the drums :)

New trail by our house. They have been paving it over the past month. It goes from behind our house past the lake straight to the coffee shop and restaurants. Alex and I take the dog down to the lake almost daily and then can go eat at the restaurants outside with him. Huge perk of living where we do. It will be fun to take the baby with us too since the trail is all paved!

Krissa and Tom had their little boy last week - Ellis Thomas Wright. It is fun to see a new baby - I always thought they were so tiny. Not anymore since I have to think of that being inside me and then coming out - are their heads really that BIG??? OUCH!

Oh - forgot to mention - for the first time patients started asking me if I was pregnant - 4 in one day last week and then almost daily since. It is nice to FINALLY reach that point where people no longer think "either she is fat or pregnant but I am not sure enough to ask"
